History

Formation

(2004-2005)

Vocalist Anthony Green left the band Saosin, in 2004, then noted "the big thing is that I'm just scared. I'm afraid to do". Green met with Colin Frangicetto, a friend with whom he "stalled" during his stay, and they decided to start recording and recruiting. Thus, Circa Survive was born.

Frangicetto and Green, with full support from Equal Vision Records, then recruited Brendan Ekstrom. Ekstrom is Frangicetto's band friend on This Day Forward, which recently broke up. Both Ekstrom and Frangicetto have toured with Taken during the days of Today, and bought Nick Beard, the previous bass guitarist from Taken, as the next member of Circa Survive. The band met Stephen Clifford through Vadim Taver of the band Marigold (and also of This Day Forward); "Steve was jammed with us for a week and from there," Frangicetto said.

Inuit Sessions (2005)

Circa Survive's first release was EP, The Inuit Sessions, on March 18, 2005. It contained four songs: "Act Appalled", "Handshake at Sunrise", "The Great Golden Baby", and "Suspend the Unbelief ".

Juturna (2005-2006)

Juturna , Circa Survive's first album, was released on April 19, 2005, in the United States and on January 31, 2006, in Japan on Equal Vision Records. It was initially announced through the band's MySpace page in November 2004. Details about his voice remain unclear, although the band stated they will continue to make their fans posted via their website, MySpace page, PureVolume page, and YouTube page. Shortly before the official release, the album is posted on their MySpace page as a whole. Juturna peaked at # 183 on Billboard 200. The album was produced by Brian McTernan at Salad Days Studios in Baltimore.

The band received inspiration for albums from House of Leaves and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind . During an online question and answer session on 20 April 2010, Brendan rejected the claim that Juturna is a concept album based on the Eternal Sunshine of Immaculate Thoughts, but says that there is an underlying concept. The concept is speculated by fans to be vague about human memory. "Oh, Hello" exemplifies this with the lyrics. The decision to summon the album bonus tracks that appeared after "Meet Me In Montauk" and the silence that followed it at 8:56 am, "House of Leaves" was more or less one by one by the band and their fans. Various band members have stated that they have been reading at least some parts of the book for years since the release of 2000.

The sound of this album is characterized by the prominent use of effects-laden, double guitar melodies over polymeric percussion. The guitarist approach to songwriting takes on the characteristics of jazz and shoegaze music. The album was then considered to be very influential on the post-hardcore community. Members of the band have recently recognized King Crimson, BjÃÆ'¶rk, Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor as an influence on the sound of the album.

When Letting Go (2007-2008 )

When Letting Go is Circa Survive's second album. Released on May 29, 2007, by Equal Vision Records, the album went to the US Billboard 200 at # 24, sold about 24,000 copies in its first week. Until July 11, 2007, 51,357 copies have been sold in the US alone.

Like previous albums, Esao Andrews designed artwork and Brian McTernan produced the album. The sound of the band has not changed radically with this release. It's still polished and perfected, with guitars and drums tighter (but still meandering when needed) and more prominent bass. The lyrics, the band "... raise an era when the lyrics are blurred and careless introspection is a prerequisite for legitimacy and inheritance."

In spring 2008, Circa Survive released an On-Letting Go-B team, "1,000 Witnesses", to fans through the Invisible Children Foundation in an effort to raise funds for the purpose. In June 2008, they also released the B-side commercial "The Most Dangerous Commercials" as a charity raffle to help support the relocation of a local music store, Siren Records, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

Additional (2008-2010)

After supporting Thrice and Pelican for their spring 2008 tour, Circa Survive returned to Philadelphia to write an untitled third album. The short show in Eastern America took place at the end of 2008 and four shows were played in Southern California in February 2009. After that, the band did not tour again until a tentatively tentative tour for their upcoming third album. The growth of Anthony Green as a guitarist plays a leading role on Blue Sky Noise , which is framed by the band as a "whole new chapter" entirely.

On August 3rd, Circa Survive stated that they had begun recording their third album in Toronto and chose David Bottrill as a producer. They also stated, "After completing our contract with Equal Vision we started a long search to find our next home.We met with many labels and decided that Atlantic Records was the best place for us to continue our growth as a band and to help us release music we are all over the world. "

On Twitter, they declare that they will record 16 songs, but they will not be on the album. However, they say will free them all somehow. They post eight video updates featuring some tempting songs. The studio recording was completed in late October 2009 and mixing was completed on February 1, 2010 by Rich Costey.

On February 16, 2010, they announced their new album will be titled Blue Sky Noise , and will be released on April 20, 2010. The album can be purchased previously, and those who do receive a digital copy of the album a week more start, and the first single, "Get Out", instantly. The album entered Billboard 200 at # 11, the highest position of the band.

On October 18, 2010, Myspace Transmission released a live EP from the band that played five tracks from Blue Sky Noise and a cover of Nirvana's song, "Scentless Apprentice".

The second EP of Circa Survive, Appendage , was released on November 30, 2010. It contains five songs: "Sleep Underground" (Demo), "Stare Like You Stay", "Everyway", "Backmask" and "Lazarus ".

Malignant Wave (2012-2014)

On April 16, 2012, Circa Survive began recording their fourth record, "The Malignant Waves". On June 25, 2012, Circa launched the Pre-Order Violent Violence web page, officially announcing the title and release date of the album, August 28, 2012, along with a new song entitled "Koper". The band also confirmed that the album will be released on its own.

On March 3, 2014, it was announced via Pitchfork that Circa Survive will be releasing a 7-inch record of the band with Sunny Day Real Estate for Record Store Day 2014 (April 19). Features split "Lipton Witch" by Sunny Day Real Estate - their first new song in 14 years - and "Bad Heart" by Circa Survive, a b-sides that were recorded after the release of the album "Violent Waves" 2012.

Descensus (2014-2016)

In mid-April 2014, Circa Survive once again entered Studio 4 in Conshohocken, PA to record their fifth album with producer/engineer Will Yip. They recorded 11 songs during the session and concluded the recording in late May. On May 19, 2014 during Saosin's interview at Skate and Surf, Anthony Green stated that Circa Survive "has a new record coming out, hopefully in the fall I mean I should not say that, maybe". On April 19, 2014, the band released a separate EP release with Sunny Day Real Estate titled Sunny Day Real Estate/Circa Survive Split 7 ".

On August 15, 2014, the band announced their signing to Sumerie Records for the release of their fifth album and also the reissue of their fourth album Violent Waves. In an Alternative Press interview published in August 2014, Green said, "Well, Circa's next record is over, we're in the final process of getting the final mix now." "This is really the most aggressive Circa record we've ever made. This is our first record, I can listen from front to back without a song I like, 'Yes, I can do it better here.' Every song has this moment in it that makes me feel silly, I feel like I just beat myself I feel like we're doing better than ever. "

The album titled Descensus was released on November 24, 2014. The art of the album was once again made by Esao Andrews. On October 27, 2014, the band released their first single and music video from Descensus titled "Schema". The second single "Only the Sun" is featured on November 5, 2014. This video shows the visuals used in the tour for albums with Title Fight, Tera Melos and Piano Being Dental.

In January 2017 the band embarked on a tour to celebrate ten years 'On Letting Go' with support from MewithoutYou and Turnover.

The Amulet (2017-present )

On July 10, 2017 the band announced their next LP The Amulet . Along with the announcement they released a single titled "Lustration" with an accompanying music video. The album was released on September 22, 2017 through Hopeless Records. On August 10, 2017, the band released their second music video single "Rites of Investiture". On August 30, 2017, they released their third single and title track "The Amulet". Shortly before the LP release on September 14, 2017, the band released their latest music video single "Preconifikasi Hex".

The band announced a co-headlining tour with Thrice, accompanied by Balance and Composure and Chon, across North America beginning in San Jose on November 2nd.
