Hybrid email is an email sent using a combination of electronic and physical delivery. Typically, this involves digitally converted data into physical letters in distributed distribution centers located as close as possible to the final delivery address. Letters e-mail (also L-mail and mail letters ) are mail sent as an email using a computer then printed and sent as traditional mail ( physical). It is a means of communication between the virtual world and the real-world material. The printer or mail-transfer agent prints electronic mail on paper, the mail transport agent packs it into an envelope and the postal delivery agent or mailman sends it to the recipient's mailbox. Generally there is a fee for this service; but a very small number and one letter email can be cost-free depending on the service provider and generally cost much lower than sending email directly or using a straightforward machine.

There is some evidence that posts are increasingly using hybrid mail solutions in developing countries to jump over the lack of historical investment in infrastructure and the latest service quality. This is similar to a country without a vast landline telephone network that moves directly into the mobile phone network. Technological developments are often used by private companies to fill gaps in public post services. In the UK, it has mushroomed its service providers due to certain regulatory conditions which require Royal Mail to offer downstream postage rates of favorable access to hybrid service providers.

There is also a reverse system, where handwritten letters can be sent as emails. This email scanning service, sometimes called mail mail , is increasingly popular among businesses and individuals who want to access their mail from other countries. However, special attention should be taken to examine local laws and the practice of scanning service providers to ensure that they do not read letters or act on behalf of clients from a legal point of view.
