Illinois Bell Telephone Company is the name of the Bell Operating Company serving Illinois. It's owned by AT & T via AT & amp; T Teleholdings, formerly Ameritech.
Their headquarters are at 225 West Randolph St., Chicago, IL. After 1984 Bell System Divestiture, Illinois Bell became part of Ameritech, one of 7 Regional Bell Operating Companies. The name of Illinois Bell continued to be used until January 1993, when Ameritech dropped all Bell Operating Company names respectively in favor of using their company name, Ameritech, for marketing purposes. Illinois Bell started doing business as Ameritech Illinois .
Illinois Bell, in 1971, became the first telephone company to offer Call waiting, Three-way calling, Speed ​​Dialing and Call Forwarding, all the popular local telephone exchange operator service options to date.
In 1997, Illinois Bell acquired a line in the Chicago metro area of ​​Central Telephone Company of Illinois, a Sprint company.

In 2002, SBC dropped Ameritech's name in favor of "SBC" as a national brand. On January 1, 2003, Illinois Bell, for regulatory business, was named Illinois Bell Telephone Company d/b/a SBC Illinois . The Illinois Bell trade name was changed once again in 2006, following the conclusion of SBC Communications' purchase of AT & amp; T, to Illinois Bell Telephone Company d/b/a AT & amp; T Illinois .
