Careers
Ahmed's father, Haji Mecca Abdul Majid Sahib, started Tannery of Primary Skin Farida in 1957. He named it after the youngest of his nine daughters and started it with Rs. 1.5 million of his savings and bank loans. Rafeeque Ahmed started his career in 1958 under the guidance of Hajj Mecca Abdul Majid Sahib and took full control of this business after the death of his father in 1965. Under his guidance, the Farida Group has grown from a tannery. to many shoe-making divisions. He was instrumental in diversifying the business by starting a shoemaking factory in the late 1960s and then setting up a full shoe manufacturing factory in the 1980s. He became chairman of the group in 1996. He is a leading figure in the industry and has held various positions in different industry associations in the country.

Social Services
The Farida Group company has a remarkable presence in the Vellore district and has created thousands of jobs for the locals. They process about 80,000 square feet of hiding and produce about 23,000 pairs of shoes and 3,500 pairs of shoes per day. They employ nearly 9,000 people. They also provide social services in the form of educational scholarships for proper students, medical assistance for the poor and environmentally friendly process initiatives.

Born as a businessman of Mecca's Abdul Majeed of Ambur, Rafeeque Ahmed also named a function hall at Ambur after his mother - "Buwa".
Awards and honors
Mecca Rafeeq Ahmed is the recipient of Padma Shri Award 2011, the fourth highest civilian award in India. He has also been awarded honorary degrees by Hindustan Institute of Technology & amp; Science in 2017.
