The Chevrolet Caprice is a full-sized car manufactured by Chevrolet in North America for the years 1965 to 1996. Full-size Chevrolet sales peaked in 1965 with over a million sold. It was the most popular American automaker in the sixties and early seventies, during which he lived, including Biscayne, Bel Air, and Impala.

Introduced in mid-1965 as a luxury trim package for the Impala four-door hardtop, Chevrolet offers Caprice's complete 1966 model and the next model, including the "formal hardtop" coupe and Estate station outlets. The 1971 to 1976 model was the largest Chevrolet ever made. The 1977 model and the undervalued 1991 model were awarded the Motor Trends of the Year. Production ended in 1996.

From 2011 to 2017, the Caprice nameplate returned to North America as a full-sized rear-wheeled police vehicle, an Australian captive import built by a subsidiary of General Motors Holden - a police vehicle is a rebadged version of Holden WM/WN Tingkah. The signboards also have civilian and police presence in the Middle East from 1999 to 2017, where Holden Statesman/Caprice imported by Holden is marketed as Chevrolet Caprice in markets such as UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Caprice's name was created by Bob Lund (General Sales Manager of Chevrolet) after a classy restaurant he frequented in New York City. Some people say the car was named after Caprice Chapman, the car executive daughter and the influential Indy-car official James P. Chapman.

The Custom Caprice Sedan option package (RPO Z18) was offered on a 4-door hardtop in 1965 Chevrolet Impala, adding $ 200 to the $ 2,742 price tag. Caprice options include heavier frames, suspension changes, black accented front grille and rear trim panel with Caprice nameplate, slender body prints, Fleur-de-lis roof quarter emblem, body-locked bodyside lines and caprice hood and dashboard emblem. The full wheel cover was the same as the Super Sport that year, but the "SS" emblem at the center of the spinner was replaced with a Chevy bowtie. Blackout Super Sport trim rear panel is also used, without the "Impala SS" nameplate. The interior features higher quality fabrics and vinyl seats and door trim (as well as thicker, higher-grade carpet), faux walnut trim on the dashboard and door panels, pull ropes on doors and extra comfort lights. The full vinyl roof is optional. The 283 liter engine (4.6Ã,L), 195Ã, hp (145Ã, kW) V8 is standard.

The Caprice is meant to compete with Ford LTD, Plymouth VIP, AMC Ambassador DPL, and even the smaller Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. These models include luxurious interiors with simulated wood dashboards and door trim panels, thick carpets, sound insulation, polite lighting, and upscale exterior trim.

First generation (1966-1970)

1966

Caprice acquired the status of the series for the 1966 model and was positioned as a full-size Chevrolet. These include a four-door hardtop, six or nine passenger station carts, and a two-door hardtop with a firm, formal roofline, in contrast to the Impala/SS coupe fast roofing styling.

The Caprice Estate, a new station wagon model with trim interior woodgrain simulation is the first Chevrolet with such design because of the original wooden carts offered in 1954. All carts include a two-row vinyl bench seat bench with an optional third rear seat for two. The 283 cuÃ, in (4.6Ã.L) V8 engine is the standard for the Caprice model with 325Ã, hp (242Ã, kW) 396Ã, Â ° c inside (6.5Ã, L) "Turbo Jet" V8 optional. It's possible to have a Regular Production Choice (RPO) L72, a large 425-hp V8 block with a solid lifter, a special camshaft and a carburetor, and 11-1 compression. Automatic transmission, power steering, white sidewall tires and vinyl top (on hardtop) are extra-cost options, but most are built with them. In addition, air conditioning, power windows, cruise-Master speed control, power seats, automatic dimmer (1965 only) and stereo radio are available.

Caprice 1966 features a revised front grille and bumper, and a new rectangular rear light replacing the traditional three-round Chevrolet rear lights used on the Impalas since 1958, with the exception of the 1959 model. The silver lens and trim on Caprices are slightly different from the full-sized model others. The sedan and coupe models include luxury fabrics and vinyl bench seats with folding center folds in the rear seat. Optionally on both are the "Strato seat" seats that incorporate a bucket-style seat backrest and a central armrest with a bench cushion for seating six passengers. Caprices has a unique standard wheel cover, although some optional wheels and wheel covers on full-size models are optional.

The new options include the "Comfortron" cooling system in which the driver can adjust the temperature throughout the year constant. The "Tilt/Telescopic" steering option can be adjusted vertically in six positions, and can be telescoped farther from the steering column. Coupe can also be ordered with all-vinyl interior featuring Strato bucket seats and center console with floor shifter, storage compartment, polite lighting and full instrumentation at the front end of the console integrated with lower instrument panel.

The GM Platform B 1965-70 is the fourth best-selling car platform in history after the Volkswagen Beetle, Ford Model T, and the Riva Lada.

1967-1968

Caprice 1967 received restyling with a more rounded body line and revised grille and taillights, an optional front fender angle lamp illuminated with headlights, and a revised instrument panel with new round instruments and steering wheels. The tilillamp lens is all red because the backup lamp is moved to the rear bumper, unlike the full-size model that has a spare light in the center of the taillamps. A dual-master brake cylinder is now included, while front disc brakes are optional. Other new options include an 8-track stereo tape player, electric door lock, and fiber optic exterior light monitoring system. The same seating option continues as before with revisions to trim the pattern plus the new addition of all vinyl coatings as a cost-free option for conventional seats and Strato seats in sedans and coupes. Engines and transmission offerings were brought in from the previous year. The exception is the 425 hp (317 kW) 427 cu optional in (7.0Ã, L) Turbo Jet V8 no longer listed, leaving 385 hp (287 kW) 427 as the top engine. The three-speed Hydraulic Turbo Transmission previously available only with 396 cu at (6.5 L) and 427 cu at (7.0 L) V8 is now optional with 275 hp (205 kW) 327 cu at (5.4 L) Turbo Fire V8. As with all 1967 cars sold in the US, Caprices features safety protection features of occupants that include energy-absorbing steering columns, soft or recessed interior control knobs, and front-shoulder belts.

"The 100m GM car" is featured as a Caprice 1967 blue light metallic coupe. It was assembled on April 21, 1967 at the Janesville plant in Wisconsin.

Caprice 1968 receives a minor facelift that includes a new grille with taillights mounted on bumper and optional concealed headlights. Caprice coupes now come standard with the new Astro Ventilation system, which includes extra vents on the dashboard, and the removal of the ventilation window (wing). Side marker lights are standard on all US cars and Caprice uses an optional white corner marking light on the front edge of the fender next to amber lights illuminated with headlights. All 1968 Chevrolet gets front side marker lights on fenders; cars with optional engines identified by an inch cubic displacement are listed on a half bezel; the light itself occupies the other half. Fiber optic monitoring system is offered again as an option. Chevrolet makes a formal roof line Caprice Coupe available in the Impala series. Impala Custom Coupe became the best selling model on the phone. The L72 427 cuÃ, at (7.0Ã, L) 425 hp (320Ã, kW) Turbo-Jet V8 returns to the list of options after a one-year hiatus. A new 307 cu in (5.0Ã, L) Turbo Fire V8 rated 200 hp (150 kW) replaces 195Ã, hp (145Ã, kW) 283 cuÃ, in small blocks (4.6Ã, L) as standard engines. Inside, the instrument panel was revised with a return to a horizontal sweep speedometer and a revised three-spoke wheel. An optional instrument cluster has a narrow speedometer in its opening and flanking it with a machine-modified instrument in place of a warning light. The fuel gauge, placed next to the speedometer in its own pod on the base model, is moved to its new place next to the speedometer. The tachometer takes the fuel gauge in the large opening left by the fuel gauge.

1969-1970

Caprice 1969 and other full-size Chevrolet are restored with new body lines and front bumper wrapped around the grille (again with optional headlights that can be added as a "one year only" option) along with an unventilated front. windows in all models. The 119-inch wheelbase (3,023 mm), inner bodyshell and frame were brought from the 1965 model. The station wagon changed its name to Kingswood Estate and continued to use exterior wood trim along with interior trims of the Caprice sedan and coupe. The front seat headrest is now standard equipment to meet federal safety standards and ignition switch is moved from the dash into the steering column and also locks the steering when the lock is released. This was part of the Federal mandate for the 1970 model, but was introduced a year earlier on all General Motors cars except Corvair.

Caprice 1969 also offers a new variable variable power steering unit designed by GM as an optional equipment along with a rarely ordered "Liquid Tire Chain" option, which is a vacuum-activated switch that will spray ice on the rear tire (the UPC option) code is "V75 "). The standard engine is enlarged to 235 hp (175 kW) 327 cu at (5.4Ã, L) V8 with optional engine options including a new 350 c at 5.7Ã, L Turbo Fire V8 at 255 or 300 hp (220 kW) , 265Ã, hp (198Ã,kW) 396Ã,  ° C deep (6.5Ã, L) inch-cubic Turbo Jet V8, as well as 427Ã,  ° C deep (7.0Ã,  ° C) inch cubic Turbo Jet V8s rated at 335 or 390Ã, hp (291Ã, kW). ). All V8 engines are now available with a three-speed Turbo Hydramatic transmission for the first time although a two-speed Powerglide is still offered with 327 and 350 V8s.

Caprice 1970 received a minor facelift featuring a more conventional bottom bumper grille replacing the wrapping unit used in 1969, along with new vertical taillamps in the rear bumper. Power front disc brakes and fiberglass-belted tires on 15-inch wheels (380 mm) are standard equipment along with 250 hp (186 kW) 350 cubic-inch Turbo Fire V8. Optional V8 includes 300 hp (220 kW) 350 and 265 hp new (198 kW) 400 cu at (6.6Ã, L) Turbo Fire V8. The top engine is a new 454 cu in (7.4 L) Turbo Jet V8 which is offered in 345 hp (257 kW) or 390 hp (290 kW) version. Both Turbo Fire 250- and 265-hp (198-kW) engines are designed for regular gasoline while 300HP (220 kW) 350 Turbo Fire and 454 Turbo Jet engines require premium fuel. The three-speed manual transmission with column displacement is standard equipment as in previous years but the four-speed manual mounted on the floor with the Hurst shifter downgraded from the list of options for 1970 as well as the Strato bucket seat and center console previously offered on the coupe. Automatic transmission options include a two-speed Powerglide at 350 V8 and Turbo Hydramatic with all engines. Secondary generation (1971-1976) Second generation >

1971-1972

For 1971, Caprice was top-notch completely redesigned on a longer wheelbase of 121.5 inches (3,090 mm) and featured a thick plane style like Chrysler. The flush exterior door handle and a new double-shell roof on Caprice - both features first appeared on the Camaro and Pontiac Firebird of the 1970s. This new style is highlighted by a Cadillac-like "egg-box" grill with a "Caprice" emblem in the center and a brushed metal trim around the back lights on the back deck. The "Full-Perimeter" frame and all-coil suspension are enhanced for improved ride and noise reduction.

Inside there is a revised interior featuring two wheel bearing pads and a new instrument panel with a horizontal sweep speedometer and instrument placement similar to the previous full-size Chevrolet. Caprices continue with higher grade interiors than their Impala counterparts with luxurious fabrics and vinyl upholstery, wood fiber trims on the dash, steering wheel and door panels plus carpets on lower door panels on both sedans and coupes. Armrest on the front of the seat is also shown on the sedan.

The station wagon now uses a 125-inch (3.200 mm) wheelbase that is unique and larger than ever. Station wagons continue to use a unique model name. The wagon cart of Kingswood Estate is considered equivalent to Chevrolet Caprice as an upper level train. Unlike previous years, the station wagon uses a unique rear suspension using a solid shaft with leaf springs as opposed to coil springs and trailing arms on sedans and coupes. Also new is the clam style "Glide-Away" clam shell disappears. This design has a glass top of the tailgate slide to the roof, and the lower steel section slips into the compartment below the floor, providing a completely open space with no visible tailgate.

The cargo capacity is the largest for a Chevrolet wagon, at 106.4 cubic feet (3.01 m 3 ). With 100.5 inches (2.550 mm) from the front seat to the tailgate and 48.8 inches (1,240 mm) between the rear wheels, this cart can easily carry 4 ft. Ft. (1.2 mm 2.4 m) slabs plywood with luggage door closed. The Kingswood train comes in a two-seat or three-seat version. The three-seat model has a front-facing front seat that is placed above the rear axle area that allows two additional occupants to make it an eight-passenger wagon. The Kingswood Estate has a 400-cu engine in (6.6Ã, L) two-barrel as standard with the same engine options as coupes and sedans. The station wagon model only comes with a single exhaust system which means lower power ratings than coupes and sedans.

Front powered disc brakes are standard equipment, along with 255 horsepower larger (190 kW) gross (170 Hp (130 kW) net) 400 cubic inch Turbo Fire V8. This machine, together with all optional power plants, is designed to run on lead, lead or unleaded lead from 91 octane research or higher. To achieve this, all machines have a compression ratio lowered to 8.5: 1. General Motors is the first of the top three to have all engines running on regular fuel and these changes are made to help meet the increasingly stringent emissions regulations that will come in place in the coming years.

Optional machines include 300 horsepower (206 net) 402 cubic-inch Turbo Jet V8 (marketed as "Turbo Jet 400 on full-size cars, and as" Turbo Jet 396 on medium cars) and 365 horsepower (272 kW) gross (285 power horse (213 kW) net) 454 Turbo Jet V8 which became standard with dual exhaust. When equipped with dual exhaust, the Turbo 400 jet is rated at 260 hp (190 kW). At the beginning of the year, a three-speed manual transmission was standard when the model was introduced in the fall of 1970, though by mid-year, the Turbo Hydramatic transmission and variable power steering ratio became standard equipment on all Caprice models and underscores. model equipped with V8 engine.

The Chevrolet specifications include "dirty" and "clean" horsepower figures in 1971, which was the year before the industry wide transition to SAE net horse figures. SAE rank standard horsepower standard horsepower according to SAE standard J1349 numbers to get more accurate horsepower. "Net" horsepower is measured "installed" in vehicles with power using accessory and installed emission equipment, exhaust system, and air purifier, leading to lower power ratings. For 1971, the 400 Turbo-Jet engine was rated 300 gross horsepower with and without dual exhaust, while a more accurate net figure showed it at 206 hp (154 kW) with a single exhaust and 260 with dual exhaust. Starting in 1972, the car will follow SAE J1349 standard and the "horsepower" rating is the only advertised ranking.

In the May 1971 issue, Motor Trend magazine published a road comparison test that included the Caprice Coupe and Cadillac Sedan de Ville. Caprice tested is powered by 454 V8 and loaded with almost all available options. Although the testers noted that Cadillac has a higher quality level than Chevrolet along with a much more luxurious interior (DeVille coated leather while Caprice has a standard trim fabric), the magazine finally considers Chevy a better value at $ 5,550 compared to the $ 9,081 Cadillac mainly due to the fact the $ 3,500 price difference only buys a little added quality and some fancy features.

Caprice 1972 received a facelift with a lower grille than the '71 model flanked by a new bumper with protection upgraded one year earlier than the Federal mandate. This is done by the bumper in the bumper design. The heavy gauge blocks the bumper attached to the frame. The rear bumper also features this design and now has three rear lights now mounted on the bumper. The machine offerings were made from 1971 by switching to "horsepower" ratings including 170Ã,® hp (127 kW) for standard two-barrel 400 cu at (6.6Ã, L) Turbo Fire V8, 210Ã, hp (157Ã, kW) (240Ã, hp). (179 kW) with optional dual exhaust for four large-barrel Turbo Jet 400-block V8 and 270 hp (201 kW) for four-barrel dual exhaust 454 cu at (7.4 L) Turbo Jet V8 (rated at 230 hp 172Ã, kW) on a cart with a single exhaust). Hydramatic Turbo Transmission, variable-ratio power steering and power disc brakes continue as standard equipment. New in the ranks of Caprice is a pillared four-door sedan. All models also feature a revised "Astro Ventilation" system using ventilation in doorjambs that replaces the troublesome 1971 version that uses ventilation in the trunklid and turns out to be a major source of complaints to Chevy dealers (and other GM divisions) from customers. 6-way seats, 8-track tape player, and air conditioning are optional.

1973-1974

The Caprice model was renamed Caprice Classic for the 1973 model. The Kingswood Estate model with a simulated wooden side piece is now called the Caprice Estate. The convertible moved from Impala to the Caprice lineup for the first time in 1973.

The 1973 facelift includes a new grille, a 5-mph grille (8 km/h) that absorbs the front bumper and revised rear lights, again mounted on the bumper. New emission standards add EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valves to the engine (with new roller camshafts), and reduced horsepower ratings. The standard Turbo-Fire 400 cuÃ, in (6.6Ã,L) two-barrel is now rated at 150Ã, hp (112 kW) while the only optional engine is the Turbo-Jet 454 cuà (7.4Ã, L) V8 producing 245à , Hp (183Ã,). kW) with a dual exhaust 215 hp (160 kW) with a single exhaust used in station wagons). The new option on the sedan and coupe is a 50/50 bench seats with seats on the passenger side. The instrument panel and steering wheel are now offered in different colors to better harmonize the interior, and the wheel features a new "soft grip" rim. The front seats are also re-positioned to provide more leg room for higher drivers, but shorter people find an awkward driving position.

The 1974 model features a new grille. The rear light is moved over the new 5 mph (8 km/h) rear bumper. The new "B" thick pillar and the rear quarter opera window remain new in the two-door coupe, which essentially eliminates a pillarless hardtop design like the one done by GM's intermediaries the year before. Other body styles include a four-sided sedan and hardtop sedan, a convertible and an Estate Wagon brought with only minor changes from 1973. New to machine list is a four barrel version of a small 400 cubic inch Turbo Fire V8 block at 180 hp (134 kW) (which is a standard engine on carts and all cars sold in California, optional on other models in 49 states). All other engines were brought in from 1973 although 454 Turbo Jet lost 10 horsepower (7.5 kW), now rated at 235 hp (175 kW) Also new for 1974 is an integrated lap and shoulder belt and an "interlock" system requiring driver and passenger seats front to tie the seat belt in order to start the engine. The interlock feature proved unpopular so Congress canceled it immediately after the introduction of the 1975 model. This year's new option is a remote control for the passenger side outside the rearview mirror. Instrument panel and steering wheel are offered

1975-1976

The 1975 model received a revised grille and trim rear lights and a six-window styling on a four-door model. Dashboard, radio and climate control charts revised; the speedometer reads up to 100 mph (160 km/h), and has a smaller number for kilometers per hour. The Caprice Conversion will be discontinued after the 1975 model along with full-sized B-body counterparts including Oldsmobile Delta 88, Buick LeSabre, and Pontiac Grand Ville. Only about 8,350 Caprice Classic convertibles found buyers in 1975.

As fuel economy became a greater priority among Americans after the Arab oil embargo in late 1973 and early 1974, Chevy made a smaller 145 hp (108 kW) 350 cu in (5.7Ã, L) small block V8 with standard carburetors two-barrel on all Caprice Models except the cart for 1975. In California, four barrels of 155 hp (116 kW) 350 V8 is the base engine and this machine is not available elsewhere. Optional machines include 175Ã, hp (130Ã, kW) 400Ã, Â ° c at (6.6Ã, L) small blocks V8 (standard on hopper) and 215Ã, hp (160Ã, kW) 454Ã, Â ° c at (7, 4 Ã,)) large blocks, the latter not available in California. All engines except for 454 are single exhaust systems with the introduction of catalytic converters. The 454 station wagon now features a dual exhaust as well. Also introduced this year is GM's "High Energy" electronic ignition and radial tires are advertised as part of the "Chevrolet's New Efficiency System." The economic theme continues into new options this year: The new "Econominder" gauge package includes both a temperature gauge and a "fuel gauge," the second is a gauge that reminds drivers when their driving habits cause the engine to use more or less fuel. Also new on the list of choices: intermittent windshield wipers, and 50/50 seating options on Impala coupe/sedan and Caprice Classic convertible models.

The "Landau" model was also introduced in 1975, and was primarily an appearance package. Brought unchanged to 1976, Landau features a choice of special paint colors, a sportier exterior look beyond the rearview mirror, colored wheel cover, vinyl landau roof (with chrome ribbon on the roof), inserted bodyside vinyl mold, and pinstriping. Inside is a colorful seat belt and floor mats. Fenders and dash emblems round up the package. With minor changes, Landau will be brought to the 1977 coupe model.

The 1976 Caprice Classic marks the sixth and last year of the body style introduced for the 1971 model. The 1976 model weighed about 4,314 pounds (1,957 kg) and 222.9 inches (5,660 mm) in length, growing considerably from 1971s 4,040 pounds (1,830 kg ) and 216.8 inches (5,510 mm) in length. Only minor changes were made for 1976, including an egg grille similar to Cadillac Calais/DeVille/Fleetwood 1976 flanked by new rectangular lamps, along with revised interior and interior decoration. Engine options remain virtually unchanged with 350 barrels remaining standard everywhere but California where 350 four barrels is standard. The only change is the 350 four barrels available in the national sedan and coupe and rated at 165 hp (123 kW). Double exhaust equipped 454 increased 10Ã, hp (7.5 kW), rated at 225Ã, hp (168 kW) and still not available in California. Also available standard 180 horsepower (130 kW) four barrels 400 V8 on cart and optional on all other models. This is the last year for the big 454 V8 blocks to be offered, along with hardtop body styles and clamshell-tailgate designs for station wagons.

Third generation (1977-1990)

1977-1979

The 1977 Caprice Classic is dramatically downsized, which reduces the weight and dimensions of the exterior, while improving headroom, rear seat leg room and luggage space compared to the 1976 model. GM calls its down program Project 77 and invests $ 600 million to develop the most full-size Chevrolet to date. The weight loss of the 1976 model is 611 pounds (277 kg) for the coupe, 637 pounds (289 kg) for the sedan and 871 pounds (395 kg) for the cart. The Coupe and Caprice 1977 sedans are more than 10 inches (250 mm) shorter while the 14 inch (360 mm) wagon is shorter. Wheel spacing reduced to 116 inches (2,900 mm) from 121.5 inches (3,090 mm) for coupes and sedans and 125 inches (3,200 mm) for carts. The width is reduced by 4 inches (100 mm) for the sedan and coupe; the width of the wagon remains unchanged. The height increased by 2.5 inches (64 mm) and the luggage capacity increased to 20.9 cubic feet (0.59 m 3 ) for the sedan and 19.8 cubic feet (0.56 m < > 3 ) for the coupe.

Size comparison between 76 and 77 Caprice .

Although according to modern standards the Chevrolet car in 1977 downsized is quite large, but the new Chevrolet has the exterior dimension closer to the intermediates of its day. In fact, in 1977 Caprice shared a 116-inch (2,900 mm) wheelbase similar to the Chevrolet Chevelle medium, and 1977 marked the first year, and only, in history that the midsize car, Monte Carlo, was bigger than a full-sized car. The introduction of such small cars was considered risky enough for General Motors. To help ensure the car was a success, a clinical preview was held by Chevrolet who returned very positive results. Furthermore, the design process for this car is undergoing a revolution.

Ford will respond by advertising the traditional full-size Ford features attributes. In 1979 Ford released a full-size car that downsized with the introduction of Ford LTD 1979. Chrysler responded in 1979 when reengineering his B-body intermediate car, and set it as a full-sized R-body. However, this is not true a streamlined car like GM and Ford introduced. 1977 models include a four-door sedan, two-door sedan, six-passenger two-seat train station and eight-seater eight-seater station wagon. All models have framed door windows. No hardtop models are offered.

The two-door model features a unique rear window that creates a semi-fastback. This glass has a sharp angle that gives it three sides. This is done through the process of winding "hot wire". The Caprice is available as "Sport Coupe" or as "Landau Coupe". The Landau Coupe has a partially covered vinyl roof.

Station wagon models received a new three-way tailgate for 1977; the back door of the clamshell is gone. The three-seat model features a rear-facing rear seat for two passengers that makes this car an eight-seater model. Load capacity is reduced to 87 cubic feet (2,500  ° L), and although the station wagon can still carry 4 plywood sheets (1.2 m² 2.4 m), this can now only be done with a truck down. Wagon stations use coil spring suspension in the rear, as for sedan and coupe.

The dim beam switch was also released from the floor and put in a turn signal lever for all 1977 models. All 1977 models were named Caprice Classics. The V8 engine is no longer the standard equipment for the first time since 1965. The base engine for the Chevrolet Caprice 1977 coupe and sedan is owned by a Chevy that has a capacity of 250 cu (4.1 liters) with a 110 hp (82 kW) six-cylinder powerplant.. This machine was last available in full size Chevy in 1973 at Bel Air's bottom line. Standard on station wagon and optional on other Caprice models is 145 hp (108 kW) 2-barrel 305 cu in version 5.0 of the V-small Chevy V8. This is the first year of 305 cuÃ, has been used in full-size Chevrolet; first introduced in 1976 in a compact and intermediate Chevrolet line. A 170Ã, hp (127Ã, kW) 350Ã,  ° C at (5.7Ã,L) V8 with a four-barrel carburetor now top engines offer as 400Ã, cuÃ, larger at (6.6Ã.L) and 454Ã,  ° c (7.4Ã, L) V8s discontinued. The standard for all models is a three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission.

With the lighter weight and smaller engine, Chevrolet promises increased fuel economy with no loss of performance compared with the model 1976. The EPA estimates for the 1977 Chevrolet is 17 miles per US gallon (14A, L/100 km; 20 mpg < sub> -imp ) cities and 22 miles per gallon of US (11Ã,Â,1,100 km; 26 mpg -imp ) highway for six-cylinder models. Ford's 1977 LTD is rated at 15 miles per US gallon (16A, L/100 km; 18 mpg -imp ) city and 19 miles per US gallon (12Ã, L/100 km; 23 mpg - imp ) highway with its smallest engine, 302 at (4.9Ã,L) V8. With the same EPA forecast, Plymouth's Gran Fury returns 13 MPG city and 18 MPG highway with 318 V8. Good performance when comparing Caprice 1977 smaller with Caprice 1976. Chevrolet cars powered two 350 years 1976 350 ran 0-60 in 12.9 seconds, while the 400-powered model ran 10.7 seconds. 1977 models ran 11.4 seconds to 60 mph (97 km/h) with engine 305 and 10.8 seconds with the engine 350. Car and Driver tested the 1977 Chevrolet Impala with a 350 engine and axle 3.08: 1 run time 9 6 seconds 0-60 and gained a top speed of 117 mph (188 km/h). 350 is available with a 2.56: 1 axle ratio and a 3.08 axle ratio that can explain the performance time difference.

The 1977 model became the number one car sold in the United States. (In 1976, the full-size Chevrolet was previously the third best seller). Over 660,000 full-size Chevrolets were produced for the 1977 model, with the most popular model being the four-door Caprice Classic sedan (212,840 produced). In 1978 more than a million streamlined Chevrolet has been produced. Automatic publication agrees with public acceptance, with Motor Trends awarding Chevrolet Caprice in 1977 of the Year.

Car and Driver states "Even the most thorough critics of the car actually wrestle each other trying to be the first to anoint this sedan to be the best full-size Chevrolet ever made." The Car and Driver commented on the F41 suspension option which included rigid springs, large rocking, wheels, and tires to say, "This will make you think your Chevy came from the Black Forest, not Detroit."

1978 model has a revision of front and rear small styling. Line-up machines remain unchanged, but lower axis ratios are used in an effort to improve fuel economy. Machines 305 and 350 departed from a standard axle 2.56: 1 in 1977 (2.73: 1 for carriages), to a 2,41: 1 axle in 1978 (2.56: 1 for carriages). An optional 3.08 axle is also available for powered 350 Caprices. The 305 V8 engine receives an aluminum intake manifold that reduces engine weight to 35 pounds. Larger brake amplifiers are also added to help reduce braking effort. New options include steel shear moonroof and CB 40 channel radio mounted on AM/FM radio.

The 1979 model continued with only a few improvements. Once again the front and back styles are refreshed slightly. 250 six gain five horsepower, while 305 V8 lost 15 horsepower (11 kW). The change to 305 is the result of switching from a larger 2GC Rochester carburetor to a smaller Rochester Dualjet carburetor. Machine 350 has not changed.

1980-1985

In 1980 Caprice Classic saw its first major revision since the 1977 reshuffle. To further improve the car's fuel economy, efforts were made to reduce weight and improve aerodynamics. The Caprice receives all new exterior metal sheets, without altering the look of the car drastically. To improve the aerodynamics, the hood is lowered, while the trunk area is higher. The grille is now an eggshell style while the tail-light panel features three separate square lamps per side. All of the doors and components inside are redesigned to be lighter, including the crank window mechanism, which now uses a ribbon drive mechanism. The greater use of aluminum including in-bumper and in-sedan/coupe radiator help reduce overall vehicle weight. 1980 model is about 100 pounds (45 kg) lighter than the 1979 model.

The new style increases the luggage capacity of both coupes and sedans to 20.9 cubic feet (0.59 m 3 ). This improvement is also partially achieved with the compact spare tire that is now standard on 16 inch wheels (410 mm). A new frame lift jack replaces the installed model in the bumper. A larger 25 gallon US fuel tank (95 Â °, 21 Â ° c) is standard equipment in sedans and coupes. Radial tires that are easy to roll out, increased anti-corrosion action, lower friction ball joints and larger front suspension buses are also new for 1980. Puncture-sealant tires and cornering lights are a new option.

250 cu in (4.1Ã, L) six, replaced by a new 90 degree Chevrolet 3.8Ã, L (229Ã, cuÃ, in) V6 as the base engine for sedan and coupe. This machine shares the same holes and strokes with 305 cu in V8. California emissions cars use the Buick 3.8à £ engine, L (231Ã,  ° C) V6. Chevrolet 3.8 L rated 115 hp (86 kW) while the Buick V6 engine has a 110 hp (82 kW) rating. Although the 3.8 L V6 has a horsepower rating equal to 250 six used in 1979, 250 has a torque of over 25 lb ft (34 NM) compared with 3.8 L (200 lb ft vs 175 lbÃ,  · ft). The 3.8 L V6 does not boost Chevrolet Caprice's fuel economy to an estimated EPA 20 miles per gallon US (12 L/100 km; 24 mpg) city and 29 miles per US gallon (8.1 L/100Ã, km, highway 35Ã, mpg -imp ), the highest full-size Chevrolet has been rated to date.

The new base V8 engine for 1980. 4.4 L 267 cuÃ, in the V8 with a rating of 115 hp (86 kW) and is the standard engine for station wagons. This machine has a Rochester Dualjet carburetor, and is not available in California. The 2-barrel carburetor at 305Ã, Â ° C at (5.0Ã, L) V8 replaced with four barrels increases output 305 to 155Ã, hp (116 kW). Now this is the strongest machine option (standard on California station wagon), because 350 cuÃ, at (5.7Ã,L) V8 is no longer available, except as part of the police package option. The oldsmobile-built 350 cu in Diesel V8 is added to the list of options for station wagons. This machine is rated at 105 hp (78 kW) and 205 lb ft (278 N m). To further improve the fuel economy, all transmissions are equipped with an electronically controlled locking torque locking clutch.

The 1981 model only saw a small revision. The styling has not changed but the grille that remains the egg style but now has the larger part. The improvements include redesigned disc brakes for less drag and master plastic translucent master cylinder. The shipping control becomes equipped with a resume feature, while the wheel cover has a locking bolt to secure it in place. This is the last year for the Delco GM 40-channel CB radio built into the AM/FM radio option.

The engine line-up remains unchanged, though 3.8Ã,¡¡ 229Ã,  ° cuÃ, in the V6 now rated at 110Ã, hp (82 kW) and 5.0Ã, L 305Ã, cuÃ, in V8 rated at 150Ã, hp (112 kW). All machines have been updated with the Computer Command Control Control Computer Command (CCC) system which includes an electronically measured carburetor. This change occurred in 1980 for California emissions cars and did not occur in Canadian emissions cars until 1987.

The 1982 model saw only minor style revisions. The line-up model is reduced by one, with Caprice Landau coupe down. What remains is a sedan, a sports coupe, a six-passenger cart and an eight-passenger wagon. The new four-speed automatic overdrive transmission with locking torque converter joins the powertrain line-up. This transmission helps improve the fuel economy of the highway, while improving city performance with a rear axle ratio of 3.08: 1. The overdrive transmission is only available with 305 cuÃ, in V8, and is a mandatory option for this machine.

Line-up machines and power ratings remain unchanged. The 350 cubic inch Diesel V8 engine is now available in all models.

1983 is characterized by the fewest models to date. No two-door model was produced, leaving only four doors and a passenger station wagon, as the 6-passenger carts also left the line-up. The 4.4 L 267 engine in the engine has been discontinued, but all other machines remain unchanged. 305 cu in engine and automatic overdrive transmission is standard on station wagon. The 350Ã, ° c in diesel is available with automatic overdrive transmission at an additional cost, while 305Ã, ° C in V8 comes equipped with just overdrive automatic transmission. 1983 Chevrolet Caprice Classic was selected on the Ten Best Car and Driver list.

The 1984 model saw the return of a two-door sports coupe making three model line-ups. Styling remains unchanged. The 1984 model is almost identical to the 1981 model. The windshield washer control is moved from the dashboard to the turn signal rod to create a multi-stalk . The optional shipping control (continuously mounted on the sein lamp handle) now displays acceleration/deceleration in 1 mph (1.6 km/h) increase. The optional Landau package includes a vinyl roof, sports mirror, and mold.

The availability of Powertrain and power ratings has not changed for 1984. The standard 350 diesel engine comes with an automatic overdrive transmission when equipped with a station wagon.

1983 saw the introduction of the Caprice clone from Canada, Pontiac Parisienne. While this car contains a Pontiac emblem and trims similar to the pre-1982 Bonneville, it is Caprice in every other way. Pontiac dealers get full size cars again and buyers do not seem to care that the car is almost the same as the contemporary Caprice. It was sold well enough to remain available until 1986 for the sedan and 1989 for the Safari train station.

1985 model received a small update while styling remained unchanged. The interior was updated for 1985, marking the most significant update since 1977. The simulated wood app used on the dash was replaced with a metallic silver simulation. Shaft-style radios are replaced with more modern DIN-and-a-half radios, while tensile light switches are replaced by push-button switches. Climate control is updated with rotary switch for fan and rear window defroster replaces toggle style switch. The instrument is updated to have a more modern look, with a horizontal speedometer while a lap speedometer is included with an optional measuring package.

The line-up engine saw a big change for 1985. The 4.3 L V6 engine (262 cuÃ, in) with the throttle body fuel injection (RPO LB4) replaced both 3.8 L V6 in 1985 as the base engine for the sedan and coupe. The 4.3Ã £ engine, L rated at 130 hp (97 kW) and 210Ã, lb ft ft (285Ã, N? M), produces 20Ã, hp (15 kW) over 229 cuÃ, in V6. The 4.3Ã, L V6 share boring and stroke with 350Ã, Â ° c in the Chevrolet V8. This engine comes standard with three-speed automatic but is available with four-speed automatic overdrive transmission. The 5.0Ã, L 305Ã, cuÃ, in the V8 engine receives electronic spark control and compression increases from 8.6: 1 to 9.5: 1. This causes the 305 output to jump to 165 hp (123 kW). The 350 diesel engine in the engine remains unchanged, as it fell in January.

1986-1990

1986 marked the first major exterior restyle since 1980. The front fascia is fixed to have a more aerodynamic look. Coat Caprice is no longer a hood ornament, but a symbol located in a vertical area just above the grill in the middle of the front fascia. A smaller, new slim grille with a prominent vertical chrome divider rod replaced the egg style used in 1985. Rear-tail lights are restored to look more modern and detailed, but still have three lamps per side. The metal sheet remains unchanged; However, the new front and rear restyles update Caprice's appearance.

With Impala no longer being produced, a new four-door Caprice model was introduced (similar to the previous Impala). There are still four-door sedans, coupes and eight passengers, while the new Brougham four-door sedan has joined the line-up model. The Brougham model features 55/45 front seats with palm rest, and new "pillow design" with velor fabrics. Broughams features appliques woodgrain on its fascia dashboard, dome vault lights, honor lamps at the front door, and 20 oz carpet. The power window controls for all models are moved from the door panel to the armrest to improve the ergonomics.

The 4.3 L V6 engine receives a boost of 10 hp (7.5 kW), rated at 140 hp (100 kW). 305 cu in the engine does not change and remains standard in the station wagon. The station wagon that was built after about November 1, 1985 was equipped with 307 cu built by Oldsmobile in the engine. After this point, 305 cuÃ, in is no longer available at the station wagon. This machine is used in all GM B-body station wagon from this point to simplify production. The 307 cuÃ, in is equipped with a four barrel carburettor and rated at 140 hp (104 kW) and  £ 255 (346 Ã, N m). Diesel engine 350 in diesel engine stopped.

The final models of the 1986 and 1987 models saw only minor style revisions after the previous year's restrictions. 1986 is the first model of Brougham LS, with a double lamp in front. After a small restyling in 1987, all models were equipped with modern composite headlamps and back stood ornaments. A woodgrain appliques are used on dashboards for all models. The line-up model was slightly revised, and now includes the base level of Caprice's eight-passenger train, and the four-door sedan of Caprice Classic Brougham LS. The Brougham LS features all of Brougham's facilities, plus a layered vinyl roof, opera lamp and LS monogram. Leather seats are a new option available for Brougham and Brougham LS sedans, which also have a new pillow-style seating design and folding center folds in the backseat.

The engine layout only accepts small changes. The 4.3Ã, L V6 and 305Ã, cuÃ, in the V8 are updated with roller lifter and valve center bolt cover. 305 cuÃ, in has increased 5Ã, hp (3.7 kW) and is now rated at 170Ã, hp (127Ã,¬W) and 250Ã, lb? Ft (339Ã, N? M). 307 cuÃ, in Oldsmobile-built V8 remains unchanged and is the only machine available for station wagons. Some Chevrolet Caprice sedans sold in Canada use 307 cuÃ, in Oldsmobile-built V8 as a replacement for a 305cc engine made by Chevrolet during the 1987 model.

The 1988 line-up model was revised, with the sport coupe down due to low sales. Station wagon line-up is reduced to one model, wagon eight passengers. The engine remains unchanged, but the four-speed automatic overdrive transmission is standard on all machines and models. Standard equipment for all models including colored glass, remote control mirror, automatic on/off lights, and AM/FM stereo. The police version of the Caprice cart was made; it is code 1A2 and is designed for the use of dedicated services.

1989 marks the first year of fuel injection V8 engine. 305 cu in V8 has been updated with electronic fuel injection throttle body (RPO LO3), first introduced in 1987 on pickup Chevrolet/GMC and van. The engine is rated at 170 hp (127 kW) and 255 lb ft (346 N m), which has only slightly increased torque over the carburetor engine. However, as a result of fuel injections, cold weather starts, driving ability, fuel economy and emissions are all improved. The 4.3Ã,® L V6 is no longer a base machine, and is now only available in taxis and police options of Caprices. The 307 engine remains unchanged for the station wagon. The rear seat passenger receives a belt for the outboard position and the air conditioner is standard on all models.

1990 is essentially a remnant year and marks the last year for a streamlined body style. New for the year 1990 are front-mounted seat belts, fast-connected fuel lines for engine 305 in engines, and Scotchgard-protected interior fabrics. The door-mounted belt is fitted to meet Federal government's passive holding requirements for the 1990 model. The line-up and line-up model of the machine has not changed. Caprice 1990 was only produced until the end of 1989, when production was closed to prepare for a redesigned 1991 model.

9C1 Police Model

The police package, which can be ordered under the GM Regular Production Options code 9C1 , was introduced to Caprice's new basic model that replaced the Impala for 1986.

In 1986 Michigan State Police tests, Chevrolet Caprice competed with Ford LTD Crown Victoria, Dodge Diplomat and Plymouth Gran Fury. The Caprice has the fastest quarter-mile of all three, and the best fuel economy. The Dodge and Plymouth finish off Caprice at 0-100 mph times, but are placed last on the road alone times. However, there is only a 1/3 second difference between the fastest and slowest vehicles on the highway. The four cars were very close to the competition for 1986, and there was little difference in performance.

For 1987, Caprice 9C1 was little changed. The 350-4bbl engine receives increased compression, roller lift, and a new central-bolt valve cover. The 180 hp (134 kW) rating of this machine helps improve Caprice's performance above its competitors. The 4.3 L engine is still available, but it is marketed to the city police department with less need for performance.

The Michigan State Police Test has Chevrolet Caprice beating rivals from Ford, Dodge, and Plymouth in almost every category. Caprice has the fastest quarter-mile time and 0-100 mph times, top speed, fastest road time, and the best fuel economy, though Plymouth and Dodge have shorter braking distances. The 1987 Chevrolet Caprice won a contract for Michigan State police and will hold this contract until 1996 when Caprice is terminated.

For 1988, Caprice 9C1 was unchanged again. The Michigan State Police Test proved more competitive, with Ford LTD Crown Victoria showing a strong performance improvement. The Plymouth and Dodge models continue unchanged and are not competitive with Chevrolet and Ford. The 1988 tests show Caprice with the fastest quarter mile and 0-100 mph times, the best fuel economy, the fastest road time (though it's related to Ford) and the best ergonomics. Ford beat Chevrolet with a maximum speed of 1 mph (1.6 km/h) faster and better brakes, but Chevrolet scored second place for both categories. Overall Chevrolet scored the highest goal in the competition, followed by Ford, Dodge and Plymouth

For 1989, Caprice 9C1 received some major changes to the drivetrain. All engines are now equipped with throttle-body fuel injection (divided by truck/van ranks and based on the first TBI LB4 4.3L injection system used with 1985 model passenger cars), and 305 cuÃ, at (5.00 l). ) engine is now added to the options list. The machines available today are 4.3 (260) in V6, 305 cu at (5.00 l l) and 350 u at (5.7 l l) V8s. The V6 and 350 engines are equipped with TH700-R4 transmission while the 305 engine uses TH200-4R transmission. V6 and 305 use the axle ratio of 3.08: 1, while the 350-powered car now uses a 3.42: 1. 4.3 L axle ratio fixed at 140 hp (104 kW), while 305 TBI engines rated at 170 hp (127 kW ), and 350 TBI engines rated at 190 hp (142 kW). The Caprice-powered 350 did it well again in Michigan State Police tests to pursue rated cars. It has the fastest 0-100 mph, the fastest road time, the highest speed and the best fuel economy. The Dodge Diplomat and Ford Crown Victoria LTD flooded Caprice, and Plymouth Fury and Dodge Diplomats had better ergonomics than Caprice.

1990 is another carry-over year for Caprice 9C1 with the only major change is the seat belt mounted on the door. At Michigan State Police tests, the only competition is from Crown Crown Victoria LTD, because the production of Dodge Diplomat and Plymouth Gran Fury had ended during 1989. Caprice won all six categories for 1990, had the fastest time of 0-100 times, the fastest road time , best brakes, top speed, best fuel economy and best interior ergonomics. This is the first time any car has won six categories in the Michigan State Police test.

Fourth Generation (1991-1996) >

The 1991 model is completely redesigned - It replaces the 1977-based rectilinear design with a more rounded and more aerodynamic sheetmetal. While the body and interior are all new, excluding the Anti-Lock Braking System, the chassis and powertrain were brought from the 1990 model. Some of the major components (including floor pans) were completely exchanged between 1977 and 1996.

Motor Trend was awarded the new Caprice Classic Car of the Year. Two trim levels were initially offered - Caprice and Caprice Classic, replacing the previous Classic and Brougham models. General Motors hopes to regain top spot as America's favorite car with a new aerodynamic style from their full-size offer.

However, the last B-body Caprice is not well received by critics and does not have a high sales figure. The car's styling was criticized with car enthusiasts calling it a "beach whale" and "reverse tub". For 1993 there were some revisions, the most obvious being the removal of the rear wheel around a more conventional supporting well, an open wheel well. This applies only to sedan models; the station wagon keeps the wheel wells around. A final appearance tweak appeared in 1995 Caprice sedan in the form of a side window fixed between the back door and the C pillar (the window in Caprices from generation to 1994 is triangular, but the 1995 window has what is called "Hofmeister ketegaran", featuring 4 sides and sweeps into forward, no sharp corners pointing backwards), and carts are given the same mirror as the sedan. In 1996 SS Impala was exported to the Middle East market with SS Caprice badge, with a car identical to its American counterpart except for side fonts on the rear quarter panels & amp; the badge on the dashboard says Caprice SS .

In 1994, Caprice received a new engine, including an optional version of the Corvette's LT1 350 cuÃ, in (5.7Ã, L) engines that produced 260Ã, hp (194Ã,kW) and 330Ã, lbÃ, Â · ft (447Ã, Â ° C ) torque. The standard engine in all sedans, including 9C1 police cars, is 200 hp (150 kW), L99 263 (4.3 V). The LT1 is optional in the 9C1 and standard police package on the cart. The LT1 350 is standard in a civil sedan with the addition of a B4U towing package. The towing package also provides a heavy duty suspension similar to a 9C1 police car suspension, 2.93 gears, heavy duty cooling, heavy duty rear drum brakes, and limited slip differential. Interior Caprice 1994 has a redesign featuring the steering Camaro, a digital speedometer and a new console.

Caprice 9C1 with LT1 engine becomes one of the fastest modern and modern police vehicles. This vehicle forms a strong dedication by many police departments that the home industry is developing by restoring Caprices to continue police services after GM halts car production.

Automobile production was discontinued in 1996 due to sales pressure from mid-size Chevrolet Lumina, financial problems at General Motors, and consumer demand shifted from a full-sized family sedan to an increasingly popular SUV vehicle. The Arlington, Texas, assembly plant (used for Caprices, Buick Roadmaster, Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser, and Cadillac Fleetwood) is converted to produce a full-size SUV that is more profitable for GM (Tahoe and Suburban). In 1997, Lumina LTZ will occupy Caprice's place as a premium Chevrolet passenger car. The total production of the 1991-96 model is 689,257 with production ending on December 13, 1996. The Chevrolet Impala nameplate was reintroduced into the American passenger car market in 2000 as a premium offer from the marque, albeit in a front-wheel drive configuration.

Fifth Generation (1999-2006)

General Motors revived the Chevrolet Caprice plates in the Middle East and Latin/South American markets of Holden Statesman/Caprice imported by Holden, a subsidiary of Australia. The WH Statesman/Caprice series is the first series designed to support left and right drives (Middle East market into LHD while Australian right drive) to allow for export version creation. The same applies to the Holden VT Commodore Short-wheelbase, which is the left-hand drive version of Chevrolet Lumina in the Middle East (Only in Mexico, Commodore and Holden models are sold with Lumina and Caprice).

Caprice Middle East came out in 2000 in four versions, LS base, mid-range LTZ standard, sporty SS and Royale range topper (introduced in 2002). The difference between models is mostly equipment and tweaked a little styling. LS base comes with 3.8 V6 L engine; LTZ comes standard with 220 kW (295 hp) 5.7 L Gen III V8, SS and Royale come with 242Ã, kW (325Ã, hp) version of the same machine. In 2003, Holden launched Statesman and Caprice that were revised and inspected, reflected in their Middle East version for the 2004 model year. New models bring the new front and rear fascia and completely redesigned interior. Machine brought unchanged.

In 1999 GM re-considered reviving Caprice's name in America for the year 2000, this time under this generation, and as a new Caprice 9C1 long before the 6th Generation/3rd Generation model of Holden Caprice as Caprice PPV, but later will be brought back a few years later like that.

The sixth generation (2006-2017)

Middle East

In November 2006, a completely redesigned Caprice lineup was launched, again based on the recently-introduced Holden WM Statesman/Caprice. The new Caprice formation includes LS, LTZ, SS and Royale bases, all new 268 kW sports (360 hp) L98 6.0Ã, L V8.

LS, LTZ, and Royale all share the front bumper as Holden WM Statesman while LS does not have the Statesman trademark foglights seen at LTZ and Royale; SS gets front bumper Caprice and foglamps minus parking sensors. LS also gets the interior and wheels of VE Commodore Omega, while LTZ gets rims from VE Commodore V based on Commodore Omega, and Statesman interior minus the headrests with LCD screens and DVD players, while Royale gets Statesman's rims, and the Statesman inside with a LCD screen on the head leaning and DVD player from Holden version, grille from Daewoo Veritas, a hood ornament similar to that appearing on the 4th and 5th generation models, and SS rim advantages similar to WM Caprice, the interior of Caprice minus the headrest with the LCD screen and DVD player, color-coded version of grille's trim, and an optional lip spoiler from WM Caprice.

The Caprice is updated for 2011 to include features that Holden includes Holden Caprice. Caprice letters engraved on chrome trim in cars from 2000 to 2010 on the trim were dropped & amp; replaced by a Caprice nameplate badge that was under the chrome trim on the left end of the rear fascia on the trunk. V6 engine dropped on LS & amp; LTZ left the V8 as a standard engine while the LS got the rim that previously existed on LTZ from 2007-2010 and was previously seen on VE Commodore V based on the Omega Series I model, while LTZ & amp; Royale gets rims seen on VE Commodore Calais V Series II & amp; 2010-2011 Chevrolet Omega Fittipaldi Edition and SS are now getting the rims that are owned by WM Caprice V Series II. LS, LTZ, & amp; Royale still retains the Statesman's front bumper, while the SS still retains the front bumper of Caprice/Caprice V. The Royale also gets a rear-view camera in the chrome trim on a luggage that does not exist on LS, LTZ, & amp; SS like Holden Caprice & amp; Caprice V. For the 2013 model year for Caprice SS, the Impala badge in the trunk was dropped by using a traditional Chevrolet tie.

The Caprice is updated again based on Holden WN Caprice. The Caprice LS & amp; LTZ still retains the front bumper as WM statesman while Royale now gets the same front bumper as seen on WM/WN Caprice & amp; Caprice SS & amp; rims that previously existed on Caprice SS 2011-2013, 2010-2013 WM Caprice V & amp; current model LPG WN Caprice, and interior Holden Commodore (VF) Calais same as the Holden model. SS is now getting a rear vision camera that was previously only available in Caprice Royale while it is still not available on Caprice LS or LTZ, the same interior update WN Caprice & amp; Caprice Royale, and also got the same rim as the WN Caprice V & amp; while LS, LTZ & amp; SS gets a new rim.

The Holden-sourced Chevrolet Caprice in LS trim is used in Middle East police forces in the United Arab Emirates such as Abu Dhabi Police, Oman Royal Police and Dubai Police. In 2012 after the Libyan Civil War ended, Abu Dhabi Police donated 100 police cars of Caprice LS to Libya along with a uniform that made it the only country in the continent of Africa that holds Holden sourced from Caprices in service.

North America

On 5 October 2009, General Motors announced the Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV). Chevrolet Caprice is sold only to law enforcement agencies in the US and Canadian markets in 2011. General Motors will not immediately sell Caprice PPV to the general public; however, some vehicles have been purchased by individuals through dealer sales channels. These include GM demonstrator vehicles and dealers, unsold dealer inventories, and purchases for demonstration use by law enforcement and other related businesses. The Caprice PPV is imported from Australia and is a captive import of Holden Caprice from WM, not Commodore Holden a short distance from VE Range, which is Australia's premier patrol car. However, both these cars share the same platform Zeta. The Caprice comes with 6.0Ã, L L77 AFM V8, which is standard in 2011 and has been optional since 2012; or the standard 3.6 L LLT SIDI V6 engine, which is available nine months later. Both machines are capable of ethanol E85.

The Caprice PPV concept car is based on the Middle East Caprice LS specification, which is based on Holden WM Caprice Series I. The front end and grille is the same as Caprice LS 2007-2010. Caprice letters are engraved into chrome trims in the trunk, there are PPV letters on the right side of the back fascia and FlexFuel nameplate, located in GM vehicles in North America from 2007 to 2009. PPV has dual exhaust, shifter floor in console, and mountain guns, lights and siren controls on the console, 18 inch steel rim & amp; central cap of Impala 9C1, and touch screen instead of radio and HVAC control. A prototype similar to the concept car at LAPD is shown in Australia by Holden. Other prototypes tested by LAPD have the same front end, grille, steel rim and middle cover as a production model, while the car is based on the WM Caprice 1 Series with its rear bumper, indicator lights on the side of the car, chrome trim with Caprice engraved on topped & amp; V8 badge from Caprice 2007-2010.

Special features added by Chevrolet for Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV). The driver's seat has a special curve made to accommodate the police officer's equipment belt making it more comfortable to drive. Special tuning such as the Performance Algorith Liftfoot (PAL) stream and performance-tuned suspension are added for performance improvements intended specifically for police needs.

Earlier, the future of North American Holden's export program had been the subject of a contradictory announcement as General Motors emerged from k
