Design details
Colt 9mm SMG is a closed bolt, blowback operated SMG, rather than the conventional direct-throw gas operation from a standard type 5.56ÃÆ'â € "45mm M16 rifle. As a closed bolt gun, Colt SMG is inherently more accurate than open bolt guns like the Israeli UZI.
The whole aesthetic is identical to most M16 type rifles. Changes include large plastic brass deflectors that are fitted to the back of the ejection port. The 9mm SMM Colt factory is equipped with a 10.5-inch long barrel and has a top M16-style receiver, which means they have a fixed handle, no advanced auxiliary and A1 sights (with 50 and 100 meter settings). Recipient's magazine well was modified using a special adapter to allow the use of a smaller 9mm magazine. The magazine itself is a copy of the Israeli SMG UZI magazine, modified to fit the Colt and lock the bolt back after the last shot.

Variant
The current Colt production model is RO635 which has a group of secure fire triggers/Semi/Full Auto selective and RO639 which comes with a Fire selective Safe/Semi/3-round trigger group. Both are equipped with 10.5 inch long barrel. The 633 is a compact version modified with 7 inches (180 mm) barrel, hydraulic buffer and a simplified front sight post used by DEA.
The most common model is 635, the latest version is only marked SMG 9mm NATO .
