An industrial piercing (North America), sometimes called the bar (British/Irish), piercing the scaffold or piercing construction , is every two holes piercing connected with a single straight piece of jewelry (compare with orbital piercing); However, it usually refers to the double perforation of the upper ear cartilage in particular. Two piercings are made, one close enough to the second (front-helix piercing) head further below the helix, on the opposite side of the ear (helix piercing). The vertical industry piercings are also referred to as the suicide industry.
Industrials piercings are usually 14g, and barbell jewelry is worn during healing period. Sometimes, a pair of captive rings (CBRs) are used instead, and are exchanged with barbells after the healing is complete. Although the use of CBR often results in faster healing, proper alignment of piercings is difficult when the technique is used. Industry usually takes anywhere from six months to a year to fully heal and is much more painful than conventional piercings.
These piercings should be cleaned regularly.
