Background and recording
Crosby, Stills & amp; Nash toured extensively throughout the 1990s, playing almost as much performances as they did in a mix of decades earlier. Since their previous album, no new solo album came from Stephen Stills or Graham Nash, but David Crosby has found his adult son James Raymond, both started a band with Jeff Pevar producing an album in 1998. However, the band's relationship with Atlantic Records has worsened, in part due to the lack of encouragement to After the Storm , but it is largely above the perception that labels now have very little interest in groups when they have made millions of companies during the 1970s heyday. They ended their contract with the Atlantic in 1997, and began recording CSN footage from their pockets without a recording contract. Working with Stills to draw up a retrospective box of Buffalo Springfield, Neil Young became interested in this CSN session. Playing on multiple tracks in the process, Young brings three recordings he casts for one of his own albums, "Looking Forward," "Slowpoke," and "Out of Control." The possibility of a new CSNY album attracted the attention of Young Reprise Records label, which should release the album after it's done.
"Faith in Me" and "No Tears Left" were recorded at Ga Ga's Room in Los Angeles early in the recording process. "Standing and Counting," "Visible," "Dream for Him" ââand "Sanibel" were recorded at Conway Recording Studios in Hollywood. "Heartland" was recorded at Ocean Studios in Burbank, California. The rest of the album was recorded at Neil Young's facility, Redwood Digital, in Woodside, California.
