History
In 1909, Michio Suzuki (1887-1982) founded Suzuki Loom Works in the small coastal village of Hamamatsu, Japan. Business skyrocketed as Suzuki built looms for Japan's giant silk industry. In 1929, Michio Suzuki invented a new type of weaving machine, which was exported abroad. The company's first 30 years focused on the development and production of these machines.
Despite the success of his loom, Suzuki believed that his company would benefit from diversification and he started looking at other products. Based on consumer demand, he decided that building a small car would be the most practical new venture. The project started in 1937, and within two years Suzuki has completed several compact prototype cars. The first Suzuki motor vehicles are powered by an innovative, liquid-cooled, four-stroke, four-cylinder engine. It has a crankcase and a cast aluminum gearbox and produces 13 horsepower (9.7 kW) of displacement less than 800cc.
With the onset of World War II, production plans for Suzuki's new vehicles were halted when the government declared civilian passenger cars a "non-essential commodity." At the end of the war, Suzuki re-produced looms. Weaving production was given a boost when the US government approved the delivery of cotton to Japan. Suzuki's fate is brighter as orders begin to rise from domestic textile producers. But the joy was short-lived when the cotton market collapsed in 1951.
Facing this big challenge, Suzuki returned to motor vehicle production. After the war, Japan desperately needed a reliable and affordable private transportation. A number of companies started offering "clip-on" gas-powered engines that could be attached to regular bicycles. Suzuki's first two-wheeled vehicle is a bike equipped with a motorcycle called, "Free Power." Designed to be cheap and simple to build and maintain, the 1952 Power Free has a 36-cc engine, one horsepower, two-stroke. The new dual sprocket dental system allows the rider to pedal either with the engine driver, paddle without the aid of a machine, or simply unplug the pedal and run on engine power alone. The patent office of the new democratic government gave Suzuki a financial subsidy to continue research in the field of motorcycle engineering.
In 1954, Suzuki produced 6,000 motorcycles per month and officially changed its name to Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd. Following the success of his first motorcycle, Suzuki created a more successful car: Suzuki Suzulight in 1955. The Suzulight was sold with front-wheel drive, four-wheel independent suspension and rack-and-pinion steering, which was not common in cars until three decades later.
Volkswagen holds 19.9% âânon-controlling shares in Suzuki between 2009 and 2015. An international arbitration tribunal ordered Volkswagen to sell the shares back to Suzuki. Suzuki paid $ 3.8 billion to complete share repurchase in September 2015.

The company was founded in 1981 and listed on Bombay Stock Exchange and India National Stock Exchange.
Maruti Suzuki was born as an Indian government-led company called Maruti Udyog Limited, with Suzuki as a small partner, to make cars at lower prices for the Indian middle class. Over the years, various products have widened and ownership has changed hands as customers have evolved.
Maruti Suzuki offers models ranging from Maruti 800 to Maruti Suzuki Kizashi premium sedan and luxury SUV Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. The Maruti 800 was the first model launched by the company in 1983 followed by the Maruti Omni mini-van in 1984. Maruti Gypsy, launched in 1985, began its widespread use with the Indian Army and Indian Police Service being its main customer. The short-lived Maruti 1000 was replaced by Maruti Esteem in 1994.
Maruti Zen, launched in 1993, is a compact car model of both companies. The company went on to launch another Maruti Wagon-R compact car followed by Maruti Baleno in 1999. It was later replaced by Suzuki SX4. SX4 is subsequently replaced by Ciaz.
In 2000, Maruti Alto was launched. Maruti models include Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, launched in 2003, Maruti Versa, launched in 2004, Maruti Suzuki Swift, launched in 2005, Maruti Zen Estilo and Maruti Suzuki SX4, launched in 2007.

Alto became the third car by a stable Maruti Suzuki to break through million units, following Maruti 800 and Omni.
In January 2012 at the New Delhi Auto Expo, Maruti presented a new car called Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha, to begin production in mid-late 2013. Maruti Suzuki launched Vitara Brezza at the Indian Auto Expo 2016 as a competitor in the compact SUV segment.

American Suzuki Motor Corp.
Suzuki America headquarters is in Brea, California. The company announced in November 2012 that it will stop car sales in the United States.
Through an agreement with General Motors, Suzuki began selling their Suzuki Cultus version in the United States as the Chevrolet Sprint in 1985. The model was originally sold as a 3-door hatchback and will be Chevrolet's smallest model.
Samurai was also introduced in 1985 for the 1986 model and was the first car introduced to the United States by Suzuki Corp. newly created. No other Japanese company sold more cars in the United States in its first year than Suzuki. Samurai is available as a convertible or hardtop and the company slogan is Never a Dull Moment . Samurai succeeds until Consumer Reports accuses Samurai vulnerable to being overthrown in the 1988 test. This led to many lawsuits published in 1996, not settled until 2004.
In 1989, Suzuki America introduced Swift which is the 2nd generation Suzuki Cultus. Swift is available as a GTi and GLX hatchback with the following 4 door sedan in 1990. A new small SUV called Sidekick was also introduced in 1989. 1991 saw the introduction of the 4-door Sidekick Suzuki, the first 4-door mini-SUV in North America. Swift and Sidekick are cousins ââof Geo Metro and Geo Tracker GM and mostly manufactured in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada by Suzuki and GM's joint venture company, CAMI. The Swift GT/GTi and 4-door models are imported from Japan. The negative evaluation of Consumer Reports from Suzuki Samurai caused some temporary setbacks at American Suzuki because annual sales in the following years fell to below 20,000 units.
In 1995, American Suzuki introduced Esteem and redesigned Swift. The Swift GT is dropped and this Swift version is specific only to North America where it is built in CAMI. These models are the first Suzuki vehicles to be marketed in North America with dual front airbags. The station wagon version of Esteem was introduced in 1996. Suzuki's worldwide production reached more than 975,000 cars this year.
Also in 1996, American Suzuki released a 2-door X-90 2-door SUV and a revised Sidekick Sport model with dual airbags, 95Ã engine, hp (71Ã, kW) 1.6Ã, liter, 15 inch wheels. Sidekick was replaced by Vitara and Grand Vitara for 1999. Grand Vitara will be Suzuki's first model with V6-cylinder engine and 4-wheel ABS brakes available.
XL-7 was introduced in 1998 as a long version of Grand Vitara. XL-7 has a larger 2.6-liter V6-cylinder engine and 3-row seats. This will be Suzuki's biggest vehicle to date.
Swift was derived from the model lineup in 2001 and Esteem was replaced in 2002 by the new Aerio, offered as a 4-door sedan and a 5-door crossover with 4-wheel drive as an option.
In 2004, General Motors and Suzuki together purchased a bankrupt Daewoo Motors that renamed the company GMDAT. Suzuki America trim Daewoo Nubira/Daewoo Lacetti compact as Forenza and Daewoo Magnus the size of the middle class as Verona. Forenza obtained a station wagon and hatchback body style in 2005, with a hatchback sold under the Reno name.
2006 is the first year Suzuki America sells more than 100,000 vehicles in the United States. Suzuki redesigned the Grand Vitara in 2006 and introduced the new Suzuki SX4 and Suzuki XL7 in 2007. Suzuki SX4 is produced as a joint venture with Fiat and XL7 (note the shortening of the name of Grand Vitara XL-7) was produced as a joint venture with GM in CAMI Automotive Inc. in Ingersoll. Suzuki put XL7 production on unlimited hiatus in mid 2009 due to low demand and then sold its share of CAMI back to GM later that year.
Despite the difficult domestic US car market, Suzuki kept pace with 2007 sales figures in 2008. But in 2009, Suzuki's sales fell 48.5%, following a 17% sales decline in 2008. Suzuki did not import motorcycles year-on-year model 2010 to US. , with dealers instead of relying on unsold shares of the 2009 model. New road motorcycle models to the US are back for the 2011 model year.
In November 2012, Suzuki announced that the US division would file for bankruptcy and would stop selling cars in the United States. He plans to continue selling motorcycles, ATVs, and marine products in the US. In ten months 2012, Suzuki sells only 21,188 cars in the US. The combination of a strong yen and the limited offer of Suzuki's own models has been blamed for this decline.
Pakistan Suzuki Motor Company Limited
Following the terms of the joint venture agreement between Suzuki Motor Corporation Japan (SMC) and Pakistan Automobile Corporation (PACO), Suzuki Motor Company Limited (PSMCL) was established as a public limited company in August 1983.
The new company assumes assets including the production facility of Awami Autos Limited. PSMCL commenced commercial operations in January 1984 with the main purpose of passenger cars, pickups, vans and 4x4 vehicles.
The groundbreaking ceremony of the company's green field car plant in Bin Qasim was conducted by the Prime Minister of Pakistan in early 1989.
After completing the first phase of the plant in early 1990, Suzuki's in-house engine assembly began. The new plant was completed in 1992, and Suzuki's production was transferred to the new factory - and the three-box 1,300cc Margalla car was also added to its production range.
In September 1992 the company was privatized and placed directly under the Management of Japan. At the time of privatization SMC increased its equity from 25% to 40%. Furthermore, SMC increased its equity to 73.09% as of December 31, 2001.

Motorcycles
Suzuki started producing motorcycles in 1952, the first model was a motorcycle. From 1955 to 1976 the company produced motorcycles with two-step engines only, the largest two-step model is the water-cooled triple-cylinder GT750.
A big factor in Suzuki's success in the two-stroke competition was East German Grand Prix racer Ernst Degner, who defected to the West in 1961, bringing his expertise in a two-stroke engine from the East German manufacturer MZ. The secret that Degner brought to him was the work of Walter Kaaden, who incorporated three important technologies for the first time: thrust ports, expansion spaces, and rotary valves.
Suzuki recruited Degner, and he won the FIM road racing class 50 cc World Championship for them in the 1962 season. Suzuki became the first Japanese manufacturer to win the motocross world championship when Joel Robert won the 250cc title in 1970. In the 1970s, Suzuki established himself in world motorcycle racing with Barry Sheene and Roger De Coster won the world championship in the main division 500Ã,î cc in road racing and motocross respectively.
In 1976 Suzuki introduced his first motorcycle since Colleda COX in the 1950s with a four-stroke engine, GS400 and GS750.
In 1994, Suzuki partnered with Nanjing Jincheng Machinery to create Chinese motorcycle manufacturer and exporter called Jincheng Suzuki.
Suzuki continues to compete in MotoGP and last won the title in the 2000 season. Since 2006, the team is sponsored by Rizla and is known as the Rizla Suzuki MotoGP team. On November 18, 2011, Suzuki announced that the GP race was suspended, in part due to natural disasters and recession, until 2014.
In addition Suzuki has recorded a total of 93 victories on the Isle of Man TT Races. Suzuki has also taken runner-up places in various categories of contests 100 times and a total of 92 third places.
