History

Timberjack was founded in Woodstock, Ontario in the 1950s by Wesley Maggill and Robert Simons, who designed a four-wheeled tractor articulated with a winch at the rear. They produce prototypes and the production departs from there. There is an affiliation with King Trailer ind. and with Timberland Ellicott Corp. before Eaton Corporation bought Timberjack and named it the Forest Equipment Division. The traditional color of all Timberjack products is a reddish orange color. In 1992, the color was changed to green with black and yellow trim. John Deere buys Timberjack and continues the green, black and yellow paint scheme. Timberjack is owned by Eaton Corporation in the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s. In 1984, Timberjack leveraged a buyout from Eaton to become an independent company.

Timberjack was acquired by FMG (ForestMachineGroup), owned by Finnish Rauma-Repola. After a short run carrying the FMG-Timberjack double name, in 1993 Timberjack became the brand name for the group. Other famous forest machine brands, which have been incorporated into FMG-Timberjack are Swedish Kockums, SA and Bruun Systems as well as LOKOMO Finland. In December 2000, John Deere bought Timberjack from Metso Corporation (formerly Rauma-Repola) for $ 570 million which also included the purchase of a separate company, Waratah, a leading manufacturer of heavy-duty heads.

In June 2006, at the "Wood Wood" forestry exhibition, Timberjack's product line was discontinued, and John Deere, the parent company, became the largest brand of forestry equipment. The global market share for cut-to-length and full tree tools is very strong shortly after the acquisition.
