Call screening is the process of evaluating the characteristics of a phone call before deciding how or whether to answer it.
Some methods may include:
- listen to messages being recorded on an answering machine or voicemail.
- checks the caller ID display to find out who or where the call came from.
- check the time or date of the call or message received.
- filters callers to a request channel on radio stations or talk shows before being allowed in the air
Additionally, in the US and Canada, Call Screen is the name of the call feature offered by the telephone company that allows the customer to create a list of numbers; anyone who calls a customer from that number will receive an automated message indicating that the call was not received. Another name, usually not used for marketing purposes, is "Selective Call Rejection". There are also devices like TeleZapper for phone call playback.
