Histori
The Dendevibsselskabet Svendborg (Danish for "Steamhip Svendborg Company") was founded in Svendborg in April 1904 by captain Peter MÃÆ'Ã|rsk MÃÆ'øller (1836-1927) and his son Arnold Peter (AP) MÃÆ'øller (1876-1965). A. P. MÃÆ'øller has four children, all by his first wife Chastine Estelle Roberta Mc-Kinney. Their second child was (Arnold) MÃÆ'Ã|rsk Mc-Kinney MÃÆ'øller (1913-2012), who became a partner in 1939 and the head of the company on the death of his father. In 1993, he was replaced as CEO by Jess SÃÆ'øderberg. He continued as chairman until December 2003, where he was 90 years old and Michael Pram Rasmussen took over. MÃÆ'Ã|rsk Mc-Kinney MÃÆ'øller was until the death of one of the company's "owner managers" and chairman of Odense Steel Shipyard until May 2, 2006.
Emblem
PM MÃÆ'øller (1836-1927), a very religious Christian, put up a blue banner with seven white pointed stars on either side of the black chimney on Laura's steamships when his wife recovered from the disease. In a letter to his wife, Prime Minister MÃÆ'øller explained in October 1886, "The little star in the chimney is a memory of the night when I pray for you and ask for a sign: If a star will appear in gray and cloudy sky, it means that God answers prayer. "The same star became the symbol of the Maersk Group.

During the day, Americans are able to fight pirates and regain control of the ship. However, the pirates retreated in a closed life boat and detained a captain hostage for four days. On April 12, 2009, it was confirmed that the captain being held hostage was freed by the US Navy, which SEAL snipers killed three of the pirates. A fourth pirate gave up earlier due to a medical injury. The event was later dramatized in the 2013 movie Captain Phillips, directed by Paul Greengrass, starring Tom Hanks as the title role.
Maersk Line estimates that the cost of hijacking the company $ 100 million per year due to longer routes and higher speeds, especially near East Africa.

Controversy

Trade unions and labor rights organizations have criticized Maersk labor practices in different parts of the world.
In El Salvador, Maersk is accused of defending cruel conditions for port drivers. Costs include too long shifts, minimum wages and freedom of association repression by running a union attack campaign, including the shooting and blacklisting of at least 100 drivers in 2001.
Monitor Globalization, a Hong Kong-based rights group, has reported poor working conditions at Maersk facilities in Dongguan and Qingdao, China. In January and May 2008, respectively, two riots were reported among workers at the Maersk plant in Dongguan in protest at poor working conditions and work requirements. In April 2011, Globalization Monitor stated, "The Maersk plant in China is far from satisfactory as long as labor and human rights are concerned." This even though the Danish news article already in November 2009 brought the results of a report made by the external work environment consultant Crecea stating that the environment at the Maersk plant in Dongguan is above average in China.

"The US government imposed a trade embargo on Sudan in 1997 for human rights abuses linked to civil war between the north and south of Africa, as well as alleged regime support against international terrorist groups.
Business with Iran

The company suspended operations at several Iranian ports owned by Tidewater Middle East Co. Maersk operates in another Bangladeshi port and also diverts shipments to Dubai, in partnership with other Bangladeshi companies that are not bound by US sanctions.
On April 28, 2015, the Marshall Islands container vessel Maersk Tigris , not owned by Maersk, was traveling west through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Revolutionary navy patrol vessel contacted the ship, and directed it to continue into Iranian territorial waters, according to a spokesman for the US Department of Defense. When the ship's master declined, one Iranian aircraft fired a shot across the Maersk Tigris bridge. The master obeys and goes on to Iranian waters near Larak Island. The US Navy sends aircraft and destroyers, USS Farragut , to monitor the situation.
Maersk said they had agreed to pay an Iranian company $ 163,000 for a dispute over ten container boxes transported to Dubai in 2005. The court's decision allegedly ordered a fine of $ 3.6 million.
