Woking into Featured Article status
As you already know, I've spent a lot of time fixing Woking articles. My long term goal is to get the Article Article state. After 2 years, I finally thought that the time came to send an entry to get the Featured Articles status. :-) :-) :-) Although before we do this we have to add the final touches to the article. For example, it would be helpful if the Wikiproject movers will help by improving the grammar of the article, adding references, adding information and just doing other common things that need to be done in order to be delivered.
I really hope you will be able to help me achieve my goals and look forward to seeing you help: -); -): - D
Thank you very much, pbl1998Pbl1998 (talk) 10:47, June 10, 2012 (UTC)
- This is just my personal opinion, but I think it would be better to run it through the WP process: GA first, as this usually sort out a number of errors and throw all possible problems that could appear in the FA review. I understand that you have put a lot of work into the article and I do not want to see FA failures based on some things that will easily be noticed (and even potentially fixed!) At the GA level. It's just my mind, feel free to completely ignore me! Ã, :) Thanks, Glanis Talk 11:23, June 10, 2012 (UTC)

- No, no, I've considered this. I really understand what you say. Now you say this, I feel you may be right. However, if you can help with the article in an attempt to get it to GA/FA, please do so.
P.S. Additionally, you can see I have tried to archive some pages. If you can help get the link below the template to where it should (in addition to Archive 1 in the template), it will be helpful. I've asked in the archive page but they do not guarantee they will answer.
-
- I've done this, very easily, all you have to do is create a new archive page with the correct name (so the next one is "Archip_3" put the archive material on it and then it will update the header automatically. , Glanis Talk 12:55, June 10, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks again, pbl1998Pbl1998 (talk) 11:39, June 10, 2012 (UTC)

The Gatton debate - November 2012
- Rogue Article as an unfamiliar place in itself, or not?
Do you have a view of Gatton, Surrey is it worth his own article?
Consider: we already have Gatton (British Parliamentary constituency) for when it was the famous Borough Borough, a Gatton Park article and now almost entirely inserted by Reigate. Read also other counter-interesting arguments from Surrey with policy.
This debate is concluded by the establishment by the Consensus of a new guide on writing about places/places renamed in WP: UKCITIES and WP: UKTOWNS which is always also applicable to small places and recently expanded to become famous in their own DESIGNED VILLAGES.
Stoke Park and Tasks to Do Generally
There's been an effort to expand and tidy up Stoke Park, Guildford. What's next?
- Many thanks, if the effort is limited to the park then adjust the panel to the right of Chichester now, according to the high quality edits so far. A bit of nature would be good (I see this park managed to make her bunny stand out, rare bird photo/rabbit/even fun winter fun snowscene can add something). Surrey: The things you can do will be great for everyone and comment on how to bring the article to be scratched and we will welcome more wikipedia expert ratings and enhancements for the article, as we almost lead the way in the district. The editor intends to stay that way. Adam37 (talk) 11:26, March 21, 2013 (UTC)
Compassion House
Information about The Home of Compassion, formerly Boyle Farm Estate, Thames Ditton, Surrey is lacking. This is no longer a nursing home, and I believe it is uninhabitable. The government took over the road home, I believe in the nineteen eighties. I have a personal interest in the property since 1934 which then owner/occupant is Eva Mary, Reverend Mother Superior and her order from Anglican nuns. Eva Mary became Superior Mother after the death of the founder and Mother Superior before. The nuns, as already properly stated keep the elderly. Then buy a house across from High Street and take abandoned/unwanted children. I was the first child of the children. Eva Mary, Mother Superior heard about my suffering and took me to her care in August 1934.
As a kid I heard the legend of Anne Boleyn trying to escape from the fleeing Henry by fleeing from Hampton Court Court, through a secret passage under the Thames River. The palace is located downstream on the opposite river bank. There are secret passages, and I remember going down to the basement with someone else and an old man named Jackson, who once worked in the house and gardens before the nuns bought the property. His memory is almost gone, but he will say to bring the gold plates and such into the cellar for his master. Someone I remember found the way into the alley, but the smell stopped further investigation.
The nuns allow Jackson to stay when they buy a house and he lives there until his death. Mary Melloyme (talk) 18:41, July 25, 2013 (UTC) Haskett
- Thank you for this interesting Melloyme account. However Wikipedia does not use personal memories that have not been published yet. I'm sure there are local historians in the Thames Ditton area who are most interested in your memory. Maybe a local library service can advise people like that.-- Charles (talk) 22:08, July 25, 2013 (UTC)
Please help make Surrey ready to start Wiki Loves Monuments competition on September 1st
This September Britain took part for the first time in the international photography competition Wiki Loves Monuments. Participants will be invited to submit images of registered buildings of vital importance (grades I or class II *), as recorded by English Heritage. The main external web sites for competitors can be found here, and you can leave messages there if you have questions about the competition. Please join, and let people in your area know this excellent way where existing and new Wiki users can help improve the encyclopaedia by donating photos of local registered structures. What about setting up a local Wikimeet to attract new people?
In preparation for starting the competition on 1 September there is still a lot of work to be done, and we would like to ask the help of this wikiproek member. Your local knowledge and expertise will be valuable to ensure that the list of eligible buildings is updated and properly formatted. If you see a Listed building in the UK, you'll see how many structures are included. If you then follow a link to a Registered building in the UK, you can get a detailed list for your region. Or look at the WLM planning table. Can you help ensure that the list for your region has been updated and presented well?
Some lists have been generated semi-automatically from the data provided by English Heritage. This uses preformatted templates (such as EH headers) that will make it easier for competitors to upload their photos to Commons as an automated process. Please do not change the template structure, as we need to make sure that the template is completely compatible with the WLM standards used worldwide. This format will allow bots to automatically collect information and put it into the International Monument Database.
Data still needs local editor's attention:
- "Title" may need to be wikilinking to the appropriate article name (whether we currently have the article). If there are multiple buildings on one street, all the wikilinks point in an article about the path; but each entry has a separate row in the list.
- The "location" column is visible and better if only parishes or cities are included (& amp; wikilinked).
- The "end date" column is sometimes "C19" for the nineteenth century, and "C1850" for c. 1850 when the date is uncertain - this needs to be corrected manually.
- "ref grid & amp; lat & amp; long" (which is sometimes missing) can be assigned to 8 characters - only 6 (ref grid) or 5 (length & length) are really needed.
- Clicking on "list entry numbers" will take you to the datasheets for those entries in the English Heritage database which can be checked if needed for details.
- The image column should have an image added if we already have the appropriate image in Commons. ( N.B. if you will be taking your own photos for inclusion in the competition, do not upload them until September)
- References may be added in accordance with normal WP practices.
For more information, please see Commons: Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 in the UK.
If you have any questions, please post them not below but on the Organizer's help page in Commons.
Anything you can do to help improve this list will be greatly appreciated. The deadline for cleaning is August 31st.

Awards must be clear so people are encouraged to contribute
Fellow participants may like the changes I'm trying to implement: this allows us to see who has been awarded their work to the project from another editor, through a slightly different image on the members list. An editor does not like this, within two days since I introduced this. I will ask why the mutual recognition is unacceptable to the editor? Whether the editor is able to respect others is a highly dubious 'judgment' of members, see WP: AWARDS. All participants are equal, some are more equal than others. Really that's true. If a black and white table for complete egalitarianism is required then the conversation should be done here. Other projects place red users where people want to be included as a past and even their award winners are set in their members list. Remember anyone can reward except for themselves - unless supervised and closely monitored by all participants, this is only partially indicative of how much work an editor has done on a project. We have a number of experts in certain areas of the region. Why not allow people to recognize them? - Adam37 Talk 14:35, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
Comment on WikiProject X proposal
Hello! As you know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia are struggling to stay active once they are established. I believe there are many potential WikiProjects to facilitate cross-field collaboration, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will learn what makes WikiProjects successfully defend the editor and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the previous posting error If someone has moved my message to the talk page, feel free to delete this post.) Harej (talk) 22:48, October 1, 2014 (UTC)
Old map and Southeast scenery
As you may see on Signpost last week, there is now a push to search for the millions of 19th century images released by the British Library last year, and identify all maps, with a view to becoming georeferenced by volunteers BL , and then uploaded to Commons early next year. After the first week, more than eight thousand new maps have been identified, with 40% of the target book viewed - see the status page for the latest numbers, and more information.
The part that particularly draws attention to this project is
- c: Commons: Collection of British Library/Mechanical Curator/Synoptic index/English - Southeast
which currently shows a pink link to 309 Flickr book pages remains to be seen. (Although there are many other parts of the UK, and indeed the world, it remains to be seen as well).
Any help looking through this will be highly appreciated - as well as maps (and basic plans) for tagging, you can also find other interesting or useful non-map views that may be worthy of consideration or upload articles in Surrey and elsewhere in the Southeast. (If uploading please use the ingestion template described here, which sets up some appropriate template and image categories).

WikiProject X is being displayed!
Hello all!
You may have received a message from me previously asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we focused on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProject: good, bad, or neutral. We're also looking for WikiProjects who may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participation easier and projects more manageable. If you or WikiProject you are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be prompted to change anything that goes against its wish. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia: WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

WikiProject collaboration notifications from the WikiProject Portal
The reason I am contacting you is because there is one or more portals included in this subject, and the WikiProject Portal is currently doing a large drive to automate portals that might affect them.
Portal is being redesigned.
New design features are being applied to existing portals.
Currently, we are getting ready to skip the maintenance portal where the introductory section will be upgraded to no longer need subpages. Instead of the copied and pasted static quotes are self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusions, using the {{Transclude lead excerpt}} template.
Discussions about this can be found here .
A dedicated portal maintainer is encouraged to register as a member of the project here , noting the portal they are keeping, so that the portal is bypassed by the maintenance permissions. Currently, we are interested in improving the abandoned and abandoned portals. There will be opportunities for portals that are retained to participate in later, or portal managers can handle upgrades (portals they manage) personally at any time.
âââ ⬠<â â¬
On April 8, 2018, the RfC proposal ("Request for comment") was created to remove all portals and namespace portals. On April 17th, the WikiProject Portal is rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12, RfC closed with the result to keep the portal, with a margin of about 2 to 1 to keep the portal.
There is an article in the current edition of Plang that interviewed project members about RfC and WikiProject Portals.
Since rebooting, WikiProject Portal has been busy building tools and components to update the portal.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you want to keep abreast of what's going on with the portal, check out the bulletin archive.
If you have any questions about what's going on with the portal or WikiProject Portal, please post it on the WikiProject talk page.
thanks. - The Transhumanist 07:57, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
